While I have done many different photography subjects this one is special. Liminal Space is weird concept, Liminal space can be a lot of things, creepy, nostalgic, comforting, lonely, or even uncanny. “Anemoia” is the concept of nostalgia for a time you haven’t experienced. We’ve all felt it, like when you hear a very old gramophone playing a soft melo tune of a trumpet-playing alone.  Most of us didn’t grow up in the 1920s, drinking in a speakeasy but we still feel all the emotions and desires of the people from that time in the music of the song. That is what I was going for with liminal space, walking into school on the first day with those old drop ceilings, the old office job with buzzing fluorescent lights, or the painted concrete walls of a dorm. We’ve all been in a situation somewhat like this but the first time always hits the hardest, but I want liminal space to make you think about that. The emptiness and loneliness, the way a stupid desk can make you remember your old high school in detail. Most of all taking that feeling of, “I will never truly recapture that feeling completely again.” Even then there is still comfort in the reminiscence that one of these photos can hopefully evoke despite that.

Liminal Space.
